DF Studio’s cloud-based Cold Storage solution is a great way to keep storage costs down without interfering with the daily workflow. When a Project is in a Cold Storage state, you may only need to restore a handful of individual files to Active Storage within the Project, rather than making the whole Project become Active.
When viewing a Project or Collection in Files View, each file will be accompanied by an icon to indicate its storage status. When files in Cold Storage are moved to Active Storage, the Cold Storage icon changes to Warming, indicating that the files are now warming up to become Active. This process takes approximately 4-6 hours.
The following icons indicate the storage status of individual files or Projects.
Restore Individual Files to Active Storage
Select individual assets while using the Command key (or Control key on Windows). Click “[Count] selected,” highlighted in blue, from the menu bar. This will isolate the view to those assets currently selected.
Navigate to Files View and click the “Active Storage” button from the File Inspector to move the selected files to Active Storage.
The storage status of the files will change to Warming, indicating that the files are now in the process of restoring to Active Storage. This process takes 4-6 hours for the files to complete.
This timeframe is a standard of the Cold Storage system and the process cannot be accelerated by DF Studio.
Restoring files from Cold Storage can be monitored from the Activity Monitor. The progress bar is not incremental in this case; it will remain at 0% while files are restoring, then update to show 100% after the process is complete.
When the files become active, an email will be sent to notify you that the Cold Storage Restore is Complete. The active files can also be viewed using the Storage menu in Files View.
