Download Messengers feature a streamlined interface specifically designed for delivering files, without features like comments, approvals, or select levels. (See Messenger Templates and Configuration for information about offering files for download via other Messenger types.)
To download from a Download Messenger, see Download Multiple Files Using DFS Downloader or Download From a Messenger Without DFS Downloader. For information about viewing a Download Messenger on a mobile device, see Mobile Download Messenger.
To distribute assets in a Download Messenger, begin by selecting the assets. To send all the assets from a Project or Collection, open the desired item in the workspace and click the “Send” button from the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
To send a few assets from a Project or Collection, select those assets before clicking the “Send” button. (To send only those assets matching a specific criteria—for example, all 1st Selects—it may be useful to filter the assets before making a selection.)
If the assets to be delivered are stored across multiple Projects or Collections, move them to the Bin temporarily, then click the “Send” button while viewing the Bin.
In the New Messenger overlay, select the appropriate option. To send only the selected assets, select “Selected”. To send all of the assets in the current Project, Collection, or Bin, select “All images”. To distribute all of the assets in the current Project or Collection, including assets that will be added later, select the LIVE Messenger option.
If it will be important for the Messenger recipient to have individual download buttons for each asset, make sure to send 1000 files or fewer. Download Messengers containing more than 1000 files can only be downloaded in bulk using DFS Downloader.
On the Options screen of the New Messenger overlay, select the “Download” template. Optionally, add a watermark to the preview images to prevent unauthorized use. (Original files cannot be watermarked.)
Configure the specific files to be shared under the “Download” Features section. DF Studio’s medium previews are shared by default, but the large file (which also has the original file’s metadata attached) can also be included, as well as the original uploaded file.
If original files in Cold Storage are included for download, the files will be restored to Active Storage automatically, and the Messenger will be delivered to its recipient once the restore is complete.
To display a thumbnail preview beside the individual download link for each asset, check the box next to “Show Previews”. Otherwise, the download links will appear in a list displaying only the filename.
For additional details regarding Messenger options and recipients, see Share Assets With a DF Studio Messenger.
Custom Preview Sizes
It is also possible to configure a custom preview size to be scaled proportionally and offered for download. Select “Custom...” to reveal the size constraint controls.
Provide a value (or values) in the constraint fields to control the maximum pixel dimension along the specified side of the image. Select “Limit Equally” to apply this constraint to each image’s longest side. (For example, entering 1000 will generate previews at a maximum width of 1000px for landscape images, or a maximum height of 1000px for portrait orientation. All previews are scaled proportionally, preserving the original aspect ratio.)
Images cannot be constrained to a size smaller than 100px. Images are never enlarged; if an image’s existing dimension is less than the specified constraint, it will stay in its current size.
When generating custom previews, the metadata from the original file (captions, keywords, etc.) is transferred to the custom previews. To remove this metadata from custom previews, select “Strip Metadata”.
