When working with large numbers of assets, it can be useful to narrow them into smaller groups based on specified criteria. DF Studio offers a number of filters to help streamline this process.
Filtering can be useful in a variety of situations. For example:
- Delivering a Messenger containing only approved assets
- Creating a Collection of all 1st Selects in a Project
- Reviewing assets with Conversations attached
- Downloading files of a specific type
The filter panel displays all available filters for the current view, allowing for the configuration of a simple adjustment (for example “1st Selects”) or a more detailed configuration that narrows the view based on several filters.
Click the desired filters to add them to the filter bar. The “reset” or “clear” icons can be used to restore any filter to its prior state, or to clear the settings for an entire filter.
In the People and Setups filters, proofsheets with a large number of values will display a portion of the full list. Use the type-ahead functionality to narrow the list if necessary in order to select specific values.
The People filter offers the ability to exclude people from the filtered view. Once a name has been added to the filter, click on the name again to exclude that person. The resulting configuration will display assets matching all of the other filters, except for any assets with that person present. (Click the “remove” icon beside a name to remove that name from the filter altogether.)
Use the toggle to instruct the People filter to match assets including any of the names from the list, or only match assets that include all of the selected names in each asset. (All assets matching an excluded name will be excluded.)
Click the “Apply” button at the bottom of the filter panel to apply the filter configuration. The proofsheet view will refresh to display the assets matching the current filters.
Pin Filters
In order to keep frequently-accessed filters close at hand in the filter bar, it is possible to pin filters, which will include them in the filter bar summary even when the filter is inactive (no filtering criteria configured).
In the filter panel, the pin icon to the left of each filter can be activated to pin the filter so that it persists in the filter bar across all Projects and Collections visited by the current user.
Filter Setups
As a unique organizational feature within a DF Studio Project, Setups can be filtered in one of two ways, supporting workflows that benefit from a fully customizable asset filter as well as those better served by quickly switching from one Setup to another.
When used in Single mode, the Setups filter allows filtering to a single Setup at a time. Clicking any Setup in the list will immediately filter the view to that Setup (while maintaining all other filters, if active).
When used in Multi mode, the Setups filter functions in the same way as the other asset filters: multiple Setups can be selected from the available list, and when the filter is applied, the view will be limited to the assets stored in the selected Setups (as long as they match the other active asset filters, if any).
Adjust or Clear Filters
When filters are pinned or active on the current proofsheet, a summary will be shown in the filter bar above the workspace area. Click on any filter to make quick adjustments to that single filter, or to clear that filter entirely. Click the filter icon, or any empty space in the filter bar, to open the full filter panel.
To clear all filters currently active, click the “clear” icon at the far right of the filter bar. This will restore the proofsheet to its unfiltered state.
To restore the most recent filters used, click the “restore” icon that appears in the place of the “clear” icon.
Work With Filtered Assets
Once the assets in the view have been filtered as desired, clicking buttons from the toolbar at the bottom of the window will act on those assets currently in view. Assets can be collected in a Messenger by using the “Send” button, added to a Collection with the “Collection” button, and so forth.
To enable buttons from the Asset Inspector, select the filtered assets by clicking “Select All” from the far right of the workspace header.
Badges
If badges are enabled on the DF Studio account, they will be displayed just beneath the filter bar, and each badge icon can be clicked to filter the display to those assets which match the selected badge.
To remove the badge filter, click the “clear” icon to display all assets again.
Files View
In Files View, any filters applied in one of the other views will remain active, with two menus available for additional filtering of the files displayed.
The Filetype menu narrows the list to display only files of a certain type (for example, JPG, TIFF, or RAW).
The Storage menu filters by the type of storage used for the files. (See Asset Storage for more information.)
For more information about the view options available in the workspace, see Navigate the DF Studio Interface.
Additional Tools
Assets can also be selected based on their filename, or by keywords and other search criteria.
