DF Studio’s Visual Screen Protection feature (VSP) is intended to inhibit the unauthorized use of images in environments where the DF Studio user’s screen may be publicly viewable. It overlays an access code on top of images within the DF Studio interface, along with the date and account name.

Configure the Appearance of VSP

The specific layout of the VSP overlay for a DF Studio account is managed in the Branding and Watermarks section of the account settings screen. Click the Settings link at the top right of any DF Studio page, then click “Branding and Watermarks” in the right column.

Click the “Configure Screen Protection Settings” button on the Branding and Watermarks Settings page to modify the appearance of VSP for all users.

The overlay presents a sample image with sample VSP text superimposed. The DF Studio account name and date will be the same for all users. Each user’s unique VSP token will be displayed where the preview displays a placeholder (ABC123).

The following aspects of the overlay may be configured:

Position: Choose an edge or corner for the overlay placement, or center the overlay on the image.

Opacity: Settings closer to 100% will obscure the image more completely; settings closer to 0% will allow more of the image to show through the overlay.

Mode: Control the size of the overlay in the chosen position, or tile it repeatedly across the image.

Mode Controls: Specify the size of the overlay. The overlay can also be tilted halfway to the left or the right.

Click the “Save Screen Protection Settings” button to update the VSP layout for all users.

Require VSP for Sets of Images

While working in DF Studio, users have the ability to apply VSP to the previews and images displayed in the interface whenever their work environment necessitates the additional safeguard. For certain sets of images, administrators (or owners of the appropriate Project or Collection) may decide that VSP should be enabled at all times, regardless of the users’ individual settings. This is achieved using the Permissions overlay.

Like other settings that are configured in the Permissions overlay, the VSP setting is inheritable. This means that if VSP is set to “On” in a folder’s permissions, all Projects, Collections, and folders contained therein will also have VSP enabled. To open the Permissions overlay, click the “Permissions” button from the Inspector for the Project, Collection, or folder.

To require VSP for all users, switch the VSP toggle to “On”.

Allow Users to View Without VSP

When VSP is enabled, the user and team permission settings in the Assign Permissions section gain a new option, labeled “VSP Off”. Check this box to disable VSP in the current view for the specified user or team. These users will see images and previews without the overlay, though they can still choose to enable the overlay when necessary, as described in Work with Visual Screen Protection.

Control Access to the Permissions Settings

All admin users have the ability to open the Permissions overlay and adjust the VSP setting, or grant the “VSP Off” access to themselves or other users. Owners of Projects and Collections can also modify these settings in the Permissions overlay for Projects and Collections that they own. To prevent Owners from making these modifications, switch the Locked toggle to “On”.

With the Permissions overlay locked, only admin users can unlock it and modify any of its settings.
