The DF Studio Asset Inspector features a Conversations tab, which enables all DF Studio users with access to an asset to add comments about that asset. These comments will be visible to other DF Studio users, who can reply with their own messages and start a conversation thread.
Click the “Start a New Conversation” button to start a conversation, type some text in the comment box, and press enter (or click the “Send” icon) to submit.
An unlimited number of conversation threads are supported on each asset, and all conversations remain visible in the Conversations tab.
By default, conversations around an asset will be displayed in reverse chronological order (the newest conversation on top). Reverse this sorting by clicking on the “Newest” button at the top of the conversation list. It is also possible to expand or collapse all conversations using the “Open All” and “Close All” buttons. (Open or close an individual conversation by clicking on its title bar.)
The title bar of each conversation will indicate the time of its most recent comment, relative to the current time (e.g., 5 hours ago), along with the number of comments and the number of participants in the thread.
Comments from the current user will be listed starting from the right, with a green icon; all other users will be listed starting from the left. Participants who are DF Studio users will have a blue icon; participants who are Messenger recipients will have a brown icon.
Hovering the mouse over any comment in the conversation thread will display the full name of the commenter, along with an icon indicating whether they are a DF Studio user (person icon) or a Messenger recipient (envelope icon). The relative time of their comment will switch to displaying the time and date the comment was posted.
Conversations with Messenger Recipients
Conversations attached to DF Studio assets are visible to users with login access to the DF Studio account only. However, Messenger recipients are able to start their own conversations around an asset, if comments are enabled when sending the Messenger.
Conversations begun by Messenger recipients will be visible in DF Studio alongside any other conversations attached to the same asset. The title bar of conversation threads begun by a Messenger recipient will be tinted brown. DF Studio account holders can add their comments to the recipient's conversation thread, which will be visible to other DF Studio account holders as well as the Messenger recipient. Messenger recipients will remain unable to view any other conversation threads that may be attached to that asset.
Find Assets with Comments
Most Projects in DF Studio contain a large number of assets, which can make it time-consuming to sort through them all looking for conversations. Fortunately, there are some shortcuts to find assets with conversations attached.
A “conversations” icon appears alongside the storage icon when viewing files in List View. Clicking this icon will open the View Comments overlay, with a list of comments sorted by conversation thread. Add new comments here, or click the asset to select it and use the Conversations tab in the Asset Inspector.
In List View, Thumbnail View, and Detailed Thumbnail View, it is also possible to use the Feature menu to filter the display to only those assets with conversations attached. From this view, it is easy to browse assets one at a time to catch up on conversations in the Asset Inspector.
Once selected, the Conversations tab will remain active, and refresh with new information as the selection moves from one asset to another using the mouse or the arrow keys on the keyboard.
