When image files are uploaded to DF Studio, preview images are automatically generated for display within the DF Studio interface. These previews are permanently associated with the asset, and remain in Project Storage until the asset is deleted from DF Studio.
To conserve space in Active Storage, original files may be moved to Cold Storage. While in Cold Storage, these original files cannot be downloaded. For more information about Cold Storage and moving files between Cold Storage and Active storage, see Cold Storage and Active Storage.
It is even possible to delete the original file from DF Studio entirely, leaving only the previews. This is a permanent action, however, and the original file cannot be recovered.
Whether the original file is in Active Storage, Cold Storage, or deleted from DF Studio, it is always possible to download the asset’s preview files from Project Storage. Follow these steps to download the preferred preview file format.
Medium Preview
The medium preview is displayed in 1-Up view or when using the “Quick Look” feature to preview an image from the proofsheet.
Click the “Download” button with assets selected to download the medium preview image for one or more assets, or click “Download” in the toolbar without any assets selected to download the medium preview images for all assets in the current view.
Choose Medium from the Previews section in the Download overlay and click the “Download Files” button.
Large Preview
The large preview is identical in size and dimension to the originally uploaded file (up to a maximum of 3000px along its longest side), though it has been slightly compressed for display within the DF Studio interface.
To download large previews for multiple assets, select the desired assets and click the “Download” button in the toolbar.
Choose Large from the Previews section in the Download overlay and click the “Download Files” button.
To download the large preview for a single asset, open that asset in 1-Up view by clicking the “1-Up” icon in the view menu. Then click “Download” in the toolbar at the bottom of the 1-Up view.
