In DF Studio, the People feature provides a range of controls and functionality to manage information and metadata regarding the people appearing in each image.
To process images that have not yet been analyzed, see: Run People Recognition.
People Dashboard
In Projects with recognized faces or Key People, the People dashboard presents an overview of the relevant People information in a Project.
Open the People dashboard by clicking the “People” button in People + Metadata section of the Project Inspector or Asset Inspector.
This button can also be found in the Metadata Inspector, for quick access to the People dashboard while working in the Person/Role metadata field.
The primary tab is a presentation of all people within the Project. A representative image will be shown for each person detected via People Recognition. This perspective offers an ability to review the assigned names and roles, merge any people who may have been mis-recognized, or drill down into specific information about each person.
Key People, Named, and Unknown
People in DF Studio are placed into one of three classifications, indicated throughout the interface with colored highlights.
Unknown is the default, for faces that have been identified or grouped together by People Recognition, but so far have no name associated with them.
Named people have a name, and optionally a role, defined for them. The name may have been entered manually, or it may be assigned automatically by People Recognition based on existing information about the person elsewhere in the DF Studio account.
Key People is a specific designation for people of particular significance within a Project. This allows filtering Key People from Named and Unknown, and also affects the metadata of assets in which they appear, since any Key People in an image will automatically be added to the Person/Role metadata field. Key People can also be defined at a Project level, or at a folder level to be inherited by Projects or folders within. Their names (and associated roles, if any) will be available as type-ahead suggestions within the various People workflow tools. For more information about Key People, see Manage Key People and Open Roles
Click any person to open the person editor, and select “Key,” “Named,” or “Unknown” to adjust their classification.
Changing to Unknown will erase any existing name or role information for the person.
Each classification can be filtered from view in the People dashboard or in People View (see below), in order to streamline the interface for specific workflows.
Person View
Within the People dashboard, double-click any person to see a detailed summary of the Project information for that person. This includes assigned name and role information, as well as all faces currently recognized for the person within the Project.
Make changes to name and role by clicking the “Edit” icon to open the person editor. If any recognized faces have been assigned to this person mistakenly, they can be split from the rest by selecting the faces and clicking the “Split” button.
A new Unknown person will be created from the split face(s), which can be found in the Recognized People tab, and merged with another person if necessary.
The person keyframe displayed in the Recognized People tab can be customized here, by selecting any face from the listing and clicking the “Set Keyframe” button.
Click the “Quick Look” icon alongside any face to view that face in the context of its full image.
The asset can be opened in 1-Up View by clicking “Go to Asset.”
The “View in Proofsheet” button will close the People dashboard and load the Project in Thumbnails View with the perspective filtered to the assets in which the specific person has been recognized. From this view, it is possible to create Collections, send Messengers, and so on.
As a quick shortcut to open the person view for any recognized person, click the “View faces” button at the top of the person editor in any view.
People View
When working with assets in 1-Up View, Key People and other recognized people can be managed directly within this perspective, by enabling People View.
People View displays the face strip along the top of the 1-Up View, listing all recognized people from the image. Clicking any person in the face strip or on the preview image provides instant access to the person editor for updating each person’s name or role information. Atop the person editor is a shortcut link directly to person view, which displays that person’s details in the People dashboard.
For a more detailed guide, please see People View.
Open Roles
An Open Role is a suggested value made available in the role input field for any person, unlike roles that are defined with a name and only appear as a suggestion when that name is used. They may be defined at a Project level, or at a folder level to be inherited by enclosed folders and Projects. For more information, see Manage Key People and Open Roles
Remove a Person
If necessary, a person can be removed from view without losing their existing name or role information. Click on the person in any view, and click “Remove.”
Removed people are automatically hidden from view, but can be revealed if it is necessary to review their information. A removed person must be restored before editing their name or role. Key People who have been removed will not appear in asset metadata or the Manage Key People tab at the Project level, nor will they appear in search results.
